Butterflies and their extraordinary lifecycles have forever fascinated humans, and throughout history the butterfly has been used to symbolise the soul, change, death and resurrection.

The quote hidden in the wings, ruminating on life’s meaning, came from the cover of a manuscript in a still life by Maria Von Oosterwijck. In that painting, a butterfly sits wings open on the pages.

Please don’t put this treasure in the dishwasher, it can handle a vigorous hand wash!
