Birth Flowers Platter

Birth Flowers Platter
These days a lot of people aren’t aware of their birth month flower… But you certainly would have been in the Victorian times when the language of flowers was all the rage! This large earthenware platter celebrates the fun and whimsical tradition of floriography. Some months have two flowers, so I’ve chosen the one I wanted to paint most!
January ~ Carnation
February ~ Violet
March ~ Daffodil
April ~ Daisy
May ~ Lily of the Valley
June ~ Honeysuckle
July ~ Delphinium
August ~ Poppy
September ~ Morning Glory
October ~ Marigold
November ~ Chrysanthemum
December ~ Holly
The centrepiece is a little nod to the flower ladies in Alice in Wonderland who made a lasting impression on my young mind for some reason! Maybe it was the brutal way the flowers turn on her when they mistake Alice for a weed…
Hand-built Earthenware platter for serving or display.
